I started K9 Walkies hoping that I would be able to offer a service to my community as well as create a job that I am passionate about. I went into the venture knowing that if things go well, I will be getting plenty of exercise and seeing more of the wonderful countryside in the Hills in South Australia. Well this week I got my first real taste of multiple bookings on the same day.

I have my regular walk with Blue on a Thursday but this week saw the K9 Walkies pack grow with two new members. With having to dodge the rain, it was a bit of a challenge therefore to do 3 separate dog walks but amazingly I managed to do all 3 without getting wet! What a week we've had for wet weather, fortunately it's been very mild and still very pleasant to get out and about though.

So on to the new members...

On Tuesday we welcomed Toby on for 8 nights boarding. He is a 7-8 year old rescue dog, Collie crossed with Staffy. He is a calm, very affectionate dog who is happy to laze about for most of the day. He does enjoy a play in the garden during the morning and is very good at bringing back his toy so that we can do it over and over again! He can get very excited and start growling with play but he soon gets distracted by a scent and decides he wants to go back inside. I can't really blame him with the weather that we've had this week, typical wet winter weather! He is a very obedient dog and has been happy to wait on his bed while I prep his dinner. He is also very fond of making himself at home on the sofa, typical male!

Every afternoon as per his routine with Mum and Dad, we go out for an hour long walk. We have managed to find a different walk every day walking from home. I'm seeing some new sights myself and really enjoy exploring new places.

A little bit about the breeds, Staffys or the Staffordshire Bull Terrier originated in the Black Country of the Midlands UK, as did I. They are highly intelligent and very affectionate, especially with children. They are determined with great courage and tenacity.

Boarder Collies are tenacious hard working sheep dogs. They are keen, alert, responsive and intelligent. They are neither nervous or aggressive. I think it's fair to say that Toby has all of these temperaments.

Sonny was also welcomed this week, he is a new member to K9 Walkies and will be walked

every week while Mum and Dad are busy at work. Sonny is a 15 month old German Spitz, a breed not for the faint hearted. They crave lots of attention and will try all sorts of tricks to get it. They are highly intelligent and very loyal to their owners. They are happy, confident dogs with no sign of nervousness or aggression.

Sonny enjoyed his first walk with me, he does like to pull, so we change directions lots of times to confuse him and get him to walk to heel. We had a little run across the grass, the movement in his coat makes him look like he should be in the show ring. He's a very good looking boy.

So that's my thoughts on a fun but energetic week. Next week, I'll be writing about rabbits, another passion of mine.

Thanks again for reading

Regards, Kath
