Who would have thought that leaving your safe employment to start a new business could be so rewarding and give such a sense of new found freedom? Well here we are on to the 4th blog, which is a statement I never believed I would make, and that is a phrase that has come to mind several times over the course of this week. The response to my website, the flyers and the social media posts has been very positive and this has only served to confirm that I can provide a worthwhile service to people.

This week it’s been great fun looking after two cats, Hissey and Pearly. Their owner very kindly put me in their charge when going away for a few days to see family. On the first day, Pearly was waiting for me at the door; as soon as I opened it she ran into the living room and watched me carefully as I got their meals ready. Talking to her all the time but avoiding approaching her and letting her get used to me on her terms.

A cat has absolute emotional honesty: human beings, for one reason or another, may hide their feelings, but a cat does not. Ernest Hemingway (author, For Whom the Bell Tolls)

Hissey was a completely different kettle of fish, she was nowhere to be found until I realised, after looking all over the house, there was only one place she could be, under the bed. The next day we made progress, they were both waiting for me at the door, but again Hissey ran under the bed. Pearly however, was much more accommodating and was happy to have a stroke and be brushed as she got used to me being there.

While cats are relatively low maintenance and it is often said that cats choose to live with you rather than you own them, they do need social interaction and the way that Pearly and to a lesser extent Hissey have adjusted to me over the last few days shows this. Cats are also good for fun facts. Did you know that a cats’ claws all curve downward, which means that they can’t climb down trees headfirst. Instead they have to back down the trunk.

If you live between Blackwood and Happy Valley, are going away and would like your cat to be well cared for in it’s own environment, please call me, Kath on 0449 801 290. I’ll be happy to help.
