This weekend we've had the pleasure of Rocky's company. He is a two and half year old Australian Kelpie full of energy, completely obsessed by a ball. Unfortunately, he just didn't want to play ball with me, I threw it, he caught it and would he bring it back? Of course not! It took quite a bit of persuasion to get the ball back so that we could do it all again. He clearly thought this was a wonderful game. His obsession came into fruition when he wouldn't come inside, just a quick show of the ball worked wonders! Oh, bribery and corruption often works when all else fails.
We had a couple of long walks while he was in our care. Firstly exploring Sturt Gorge, lots of walks and trails with exciting new smells to stimulate his brain and hopefully tire him out. Being a working dog, he just loves to be doing something all day long, stimulating his brain helps to wear him out. This morning we went on a trail called Horners Corners very close to home, a new trail for us to explore as well as Rocky. Walking on the outskirts of the new development at Blackwood Park, there was some lovely scenery as the mist was lifting. I just love living in the hills, there are so many good walking trails, dog or no dog, you just need to get out there. This is the perfect time to explore our own backyard when interstate travel is so hit and miss, are we going, aren't we going? Will we need to isolate when we return? Put the stress out of going away by visiting SA and take the stress out of what to do with the dog, by leaving them at K9 Walkies. As I write Rocky has already booked his next two stays with us, so he must be a happy chappie to be booking in advance.
A little bit about Kelpies, they are a working breed as already mentioned so they like to have a job to do and it's almost impossible to tire them out. Being bred for sheep herding, they are extremely alert, eager and highly intelligent. They are very loyal and devoted to the duty they perform.
Rocky Bilboa quote "Every champion was once a contender who refused to give up", this is certainly the case for Rocky the ball obsessed champion!
I came into this career by accident and now I'm not sure why I didn't think of it years ago. I love working with animals, dogs are my first love as you get so much interaction with them but I also love cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, wild animals, the list goes on.
Thanks for reading
Regards, Kath
